After being
commissioned in the Hampshire Regiment, Donald Charles Cunnell transferred to the
Royal Flying Corps in late 1915. As a flight commander with 20
Squadron in 1917, he scored 9 victories flying the F.E.2d.
Near Wervicq on 6 July 1917, Cunnell
and his observer fought Jasta 11 and claimed four Albatros
D.Vs out of control. A fifth Albatros, flown by Manfred
von Richthofen, was also hit but not claimed. Killed in action
on 12 July 1917, Cunnell's observer flew the F.E.2d back to base. |
