A Bristol F.2b observer with 48 Squadron, Uniacke transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in May 1917. He scored 13 victories with pilot Ralph Curtis before both were shot down over Roulers on 21 September 1917 by Hermann Göring of Jasta 27. Curtis died from his wounds and Uniacke was taken prisoner.
