On the evening of 13 September 1918, Rienau bailed out of his Fokker D.VII when it was shot down north of Charey by an American SPAD. He returned to action the following day, scoring his 3rd victory and end the war with 3 more. Post-war he became a flying instructor but was killed in a crash in 1921.
