Carl-August von Schoenebeck enlisted in 1915 and served with the Baden Lieb Grenadier Regiment before he transferred to the air service in 1916. He trained with FEA 3 and served with FA(A) 203 before joining Jasta 11 on 7 July 1917. With this unit he scored 3 victories before joining Jasta 59 on 26 January 1918. After scoring his 4th victory, Shoenebeck rejoined Jasta 33 as commanding officer on 11 July 1918. He scored 4 more victories and remained with this unit until the end of the war. Schoenebeck attempted a trans-Atlantic flight to Chile in 1924 and was a test pilot for Arado and Heinkel from 1930 to 1935. He served with the Luftwaffe during World War II, attained the rank of Major General in 1943 and was a prisoner of war from 1945 to 1948.
