I re-discovered some of my old handwritten notes with numbers (I guess reported by Neumann or Kroschel/Stützer).
The German Marine had 1478 (other source: 1551) planes at the end of the war. As well is claimed the German Naval Airservice took over ca 2200 new planes in the war and removed 1166 from the roles (stock). That means the number of available aircraft was increased by 1034 in the war.
So the Naval Air Service should have had 444 (or 517) planes at the start of the war. In fact there were only a "hand full" of planes in service 1914. 400 to 500 aeroplanes are either missing in the roles with the "wastage" (incl. accidents, writte-offs of obsoleted planes and combat losses) of planes or the real number of aeroplanes taken over by the Marine (Navy) is given too high in the (unknown) reference source. ???
Maybe we can find some "missing links", sorry "missing losses" for Graeme´s statistic here.
Is there one of the "Deutsche Marine"-experts out there to clarify the matter?
