Your man clearly served in Egypt; it would be wise to try to narrow this down to the Wing or Squadron; this sort of information will be held by Public Record Office, Air 76. One you (or your researcher) have identified the unit or formation, search PRO website, documents in Air 1, and in particular search on the words "Honours" and "Awards". This wll turn up 94 documents. Unfortunately, the descriptions are very vague, so you will have to examine each document by checking the "Details" column. My guess is that you have a 25 percent chance of finding the original recommendation that led to the award of the DFC.
