Hi Achim,

Nice to see you here. VonHelton, Fokker could have used the same paint on the underside of the E.V - D.VIII as he did on the Dr.I and other aircraft but there are two very good reasons to believe he didn't, one is the photo I published at the beginning of this thread and the other is the title block of the original wing drawing that lists all of the materials (and I mean all), and the amounts, that are required for the wing, this clearly states the stains required for the camouflage as well as the black and white paint for the German markings and varnish for the finish coat. A similar drawing exists for the early production Dr.I wings and it mentions enamel paint not wood stain.

If my theory concerning the factory photo is correct then early D.VIII wings were painted this way as well; the difference between an early D.VIII wing and a late one is a couple of months so there is very little reason to suspect a substantial change in the camouflage methods employed on this aircraft.
