I have a photo of a D-VIII from the rear where you can clearly see that the plywood wing is covered with standard lozenge-pattern fabric. The seams are even visible. Would this not be standard practice ? The ply would certainly be better shielded from the elements. Later ply a/c used this technique.Perhaps Tony Fokker invented it?
