I've never tried this on photo-etch but it has worked for me on thin brass pieces.

Place the metal part on a rubber block type eraser and roll a piece of 3/16 diameter or so piano wire over it while pressing down.

You only get a few tries at this because brass work hardens very quickly and you have to be careful to keep the wire square with the metal part or it wraps off axis and will be difficult to square up.
