Thanks Lyle, that's a wonderful photo and one I haven't seen before. I think the number was 183/18.
It is rare to see an E.V with the long cocking handles and round counters on the guns as well, I have only seen the round counters on one of these aircraft in the photo in Datafile #25 page 29 (although it is near impossible to see this feature unless the photo is taken from this angle).
You are correct the cutout has padding and its covering was of imitation leather, brown I think, it is shown in the original wing drawing, note also how you can see the plywood joins on the off side wing but not on the near side, this is because the join is a lap join and the wing is covered from the centre section outward, hence the outer ones step over the inner.
I would love to have a good quality scan of this if you could provide one please?
