The DH9 had a problem with engines. Unti they were equipped with the Napier Lion, the Liberty, or Fiat engines it did not exceed the performance of the DH4. The DH9 does not seem to have been equipped with the fine Rolls Royce engines. One of its great benefits was the position of the pilot and observer who were back to back. Even powered by some rather poor powerplants it had a reputation of solidity and good manueverability, many fliers preferred the DH4A.

Brisfit vs FokDVII is part of novel in work. Have done a lot of snooping on F2b. Big engine was part of story, big wing another; gave the Biff a good turn, but lousy roll rate. Good snap-roll.

Would love to see one in the air. Aeroplane on display at RAF museum Hendon has one side left uncovered to see details in both cockpits. If anyone interested, I can send how-to be a gunner info.

cheers, Boom

I found a pic(AWM) of the chalkboard of 80 wing on Nov 11th, it lists all their claims and kills from July 1st to Nov 11th. Cutlack's Official history of the AFC covers 2 AFC and 4 AFC in detail and both were members of 80 wing from June onwards. It mentions wing tactics and wing operations that 2 and 4 were involved in. Cutlacks book can be bought in softcover from the AWM shop for about 30$Au ( about 20 US ) I think.

Id like to learn some more about 88 RAF though, it seems they even flew topcover for the SE5a's.

Ill send that chalkboard pic to anyone who wants it or post it up somewhere.
