Unfortunately, if they haven't changed it, I'm sorry to say that you cannot download a patch to update FC to G-std. One has to send of for an update-CD. Not aware of from where if you live in America however, one assumes the US distributor?
Come on chaps! Surely there is someone out there who has a pilot chum who has or would like to try both sims and give his/her opinion on their respective realism!? As soon as I can get a similar comparison done by a qualified pilot I will post it here. Until then any others w bewinged chums ready to stick out their necks? From a gaming pow one may be more entertaining than the other but I'm after realism here, call me a purist, but one of these days that Camel of mine will take to the skies hence my thirst for the closest proximity as possible!

I remember when I had my first PC (a 386/16) and played RB1 late at night. My wife and daughters complained about the noise of the engine and machine guns, so in order to maintain a peaceful domicile, I killed the sound.
Boring!!!!!!!!!!
Now, the kids are grown, the wife is an "ex", and life is good.

I used headphones, so it didn't get boring. The wife is still and ex, but there's a new one now, and a 17month old son who LOVES to watch his daddy shoot the "evil, mean, nasty" Germans out of the sky.

FCG patch:
There is a patch to upgrade FC, which resolves all FC issues but does NOT upgrade to FCG. There does not seem to be a FCG patch, which is a shame, since every single FCG mission ends with me having to do a reboot to get back into it. That's probably why I took it off the HD. I like Rowan's scenario approach--short monthly campaigns with dense problems to solve. That worked with Overlord, their WW2 2TAF sim. But it doesn't go back until the patch comes out. RB2 has its patches, and with them it's trouble free. They made a mistake releasing it with the bugs intact, but now it's a great sim.

If you are not afraid to get the old hex editor out. You can go to www.golden.net/~ksharman/rb/main.html. Here you can get some great tips on creating new aces, changing colour schemes even on two-seaters and lots more.
