"The Marine Infantry - This part of the navy consists of three sea-battalions,each of four companies.The first battalion is stationed at Kiel,the second at Wilhelshaven,and the third at Tsingtau.The duty of the marine infantry is to defend the harbors and to replenish the detachments of marines on battleships. This corps has been employed several times in the colonial service.The normal strenght of the marine infantry is 168 noncommissioned officers and 1,206 men."
