Sorry but your argument about successfulness and greatness loses out because the Truly Great One's survive, people like Bishop , Nungesser, Fonck, and Rickenbacker. They face what ever the enemy threw at them and survived to tlak about their experiences. Face it your boy hosed himself by his mistake.
