I am researching the role of the logistics supports structured used by the US Air Service during the war. If anyone has any references that may contain information on this subject, or first hand knowledge, I'd be very appreciative.

There was a very thorough article by a RAF officer in a fairly recent issue of Cross & Cockade on the RFC's logistics. But perhaps you have seen it? If not email me and I will look up the ref.

After the war the USAS published a detailed account titled the Gorrell Report. It was reprinted in edited form by Roger Bender and Champlin Museum Press c. 1982. As I recall, it dealt with logistics & training as well as operations. You might check Amazon.com

Andrew:

There are two classic texts on the subject:

Sweetser, Arthur. "The American Air Service". New York, Appleton, 1919. 383 pp.

Toulmin, H.A., Jr. "Air Service. American Expeditionary Force, 1918". New York, Van Nostrand, 1927. 388 pp.

Both are quite rare (and expensive), but you may be able to find them in an academic reearch library. They'd be worth the effort.

VBR,

Ira
