Okay, now that everyone has the "water-methanol injection" method of overboosting an engine down pat, I have a new question of the same type. Can someone tell me how the nitrous-oxide boost systems work? I know that later varients of the Bf-109G's had it as did the Bf-109K's (as do a lot of custom street rods), but I have not a clue as to how it effects engine performance.

The only thing I can think of is that the presence of an non-flammable gas within the combustion chambers of each cyllander would dramatically increase compression, but that was the theory under which I assumed water-injection worked, so now I dunno.

Bill,
Nitrous-oxide workes in a similar fashion. When the compressed gas is injected into the engine it expands rapidly. So rapidly that it super cooles the air around it, thus increasing the air density going to the combustion chamber. This has the same effect as compacting the air as a supercharger would, and making a much more volitile mixture when fuel is added to the mix.

Thanks for the info, guys.
But, nitrous oxide? You'd better stay away from the exhaust, or you'll laugh your ass off.
