Hmm. I bet the gentlemen of JG1 would have liked to have had a squadron of cheerleaders on the base. That would have also given them something to think about upon return. Nice incentive plan for returning pilots.

Jeni,
That snowball was very cold. How could I forget that.

Mary,
I was often playfully obnoxious. And since the other pilots couldn't really do anything drastic to me like punch me out, and they would not have done so anyways, they would often tie me to things to get me out of their hair. I usually got out of the mess on my own. Tying people up was an easy way of dealing with someone without causing hurt feelings. For example, Lothar would sometimes become real mean when he was drunk, so we tied him up. No one had to be disciplined by higher command. This way we took care of things ourselves and without losing the closeness that we all felt. As for what I did to deserve the snowball down the pants, I don't recall right now, and as for who did it.......Kreft, Kurt Wolff, and about four others were there. Someone with blonde hair did it. I can almost see his face....he looks very young. I do remember my reaction. My eyeballs almost popped out of my head. Very good motivation for getting untied.

Let the experts judge that. Please post a picture. Wait a minute. Bad idea. Rittm is already on the edge.

My favorite character was Bruno Stockel because he was a pure warrior, true he was a glory hound, but never the less he was bold and audacious as he proved when he tried to capture the English SE-5. He also had to overcome professional predjudice because he wasn't of the elite ruling class, but he was of rather humble beginnings.

Stephen,
You are not the first one to think I'm a little on the edge.

Dear sweet Miss Jeni,
Are you trying to say that I deserve a snowball? Me?!
