A posting on another thread has gotten me interestted in posting a question that I posted on another forum about ayear ago. Who was the young woman in MvR's life? was she the nurse Katie Otersdorf? Was she the hitherto unknown Vienese teenager Lea Swartz? an elusive Baroness von Walenburgh-Pachaly who was so heartbroken that she never married? My gut instinct says that there was a child involved (read between the lines!!!) A very good friend of mine insists that the woman was Swartz another reasearcher insists that she was the nurse. Any comments?

Mary;
The lady involved was Margret Voss, the sister of Verner Voss. She was carrying Manfred's child at the time of his death. He did not know it. Two days after his death he was to go on leave to the Voss estate. I'am sure he would have found out that he was to be a father then. Who knows how history would have been changed had not some sharp-shooting digger killed him on 21 April, 1918.
As for Margret, she miscarried, never married, and was killed during the Allied bombing of WW2. It's all so very sad.
The Baron did have a fling with Lea also.

Mary;
Apparently Manfred got around a lot more then people have given him credit for. I've always heard it's the quite ones you have to watch.

Randy;
The documention is unavailable to the public at this time. I had my first hint of this by photos I've seen Our good friend Rittm has much of the information.
I know this isn't much help, but it's kind of a sensitive matter.

Mary, Mary, Mary....
Katie once, by accident. Do you have pictures of the other ladies? Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Control yourself. Take a cold shower. There are two pictures of Margret in the book "Knights of the Black Cross". She is very pretty.

Jeni,
Knights of the Black Cross? I don't have that book. It's terrible, I seem to collect the books for the pictures. Where can I find this book?

I think it's out of print. I read Richard's copy.

Do you think he would scan the photos of her for me? I've been hunting for a good picture of Margret for a long time.
