There seems to be a lot of hassle around who did kill Manfred von Richthofen. some say that it was a FEE gunner, other say it was Capt. Brown, Others say he succumbed to flak, and this page suggests that a stray bullet from the trenches killed him. There is even doubt on which day he was killed. For ex. My encyclopedia from the '70s say it was 8.4.1998, and this page 21.4.1998. Anyway, it would be interesting to know your version and your opinions.

I just read an older post, or more excactly, Vickers' reply on it. He implied that someone else would've flown MvR's Triplane, leading to all these different statements.
Again, post your views.

Marcus

IMHO, your encyclopedia of 1970's could not be more correct. As it states, in fact von Richthofen died on April 8, 1998 while test flying a prototype Fokker quad wing plane thought to be the leading candidate for front line fighter in the new Luftwaffe. Asked why at the age of 95 he still took to the air, von Richthofen replied, "whatever Glenn can do, I can do better. I'll show that SOB how to get into orbit."

Damn it all.....I could have used that 70's encyclopędia. If it said that MvR was killed in 1998, I would have loved checking the Dow for the same year. I could have shorted Microsoft.

According to Paul Cowan, MvR was killed in May or June of 1917, as according to "The Kid Who Couldn't Miss" he was dead by the time Bishop did his (in)famous raid on Estourmel/Esnes.

But, I confess, I did it. I killed MvR, in the library with the candlestick.

Al Lowe

G'day Al,
As we all know an Australian gunner killed MvR.Now if you killed him Al, I will have to bestow the title "Honorary Australian" upon you. You may now rise. Digger Al has a nice ring to it don't you think.

Andrew Smith

I thought he was killed on the ground during an air raid at Estourmel.

Obviosly, the 1998 in the encyclopeadia was a typo of mine, it meant to say 1918. (damn MS Word autocorrect!)

So far I think I like the candle stick theory the best.

It was Sierra.
As MVR was ready to pull the trigger on victory no 81, another bug got hold of the program. RBII crashed for the umpteenth time and took down the Baron with it.

And it DID happen in 1998 )
