is it true that MvR flew a red painted Halberstadt D.II ?
if it is right, for how long and did he achieve any victories?

I could not find information about a red Halberstadt D.II used by MvR. Maybe somebody mixed up Halberstadt and Albatros D.II. I have also not heard about a red Albatros D.II. I think only 85 Halberstadt D-models were produced and used especially in Macedonia and Palestine because of their low performance.
But maybe I am wrong and he was using one time such an aircraft.

With best regards Hannes

No halb DII's were used in the palestine or mesopotamian theatres. Jasta 1 Heeresgruppe F used Alb DIII's , DVa's and Pfalz DIII's. Jasta Felmy used Alb DIII's. FA300 also had two Pfalz EII's.

The baron flew a Halb D2 for a short while in March of 1917 when the wings folded on his Albatros D3. I don't think the Halberstadt was painted red. When exactly did MvR adopt the red color for his planes?

MvR flew a Halberstadt D-2 for a short while after taking command of Jasta 11. He had just received a new Albatros D-3, and the lower wing cracked in combat causing a forced landing. He changed to the Halberstadt and got a single victory with it. He then figured that the performance of the Albatros over the Halberstadt was more important then the danger of wing failure.

It is the first time for me to hear about a "Jasta Felmy". I knew about this pilot - who later became a General. Did he really fly in Jastas?
I once read a storry about him. He landed in Palestine behind British lines and cut the water-lines.

His son - Hans-Jörg - is a German Actor!

Thanks,

Cam, are you sure? Heinz J. Nowarra - very well known in Germany - is stating in his book "Deutsche Jagdflugzeuge 1915-1945": Only 85 were built which also saw action in Macedonia and Palestine. Could you tell which sources refuse the use of Halberstadt's there?

With best regards Hannes

Just now I discovered a drawing of a Halberstadt D.IV with Turkish markings (red square bordered with white lines). Comment in the article: A little number was delivered to the Turks. So Halberstadt's were in use (?) in Palestine but maybe not D.II's.
Until now "The Aerodrome" did not mention Turkish pilots (maybe because of zero aces).
Who knows a source about the Turkish Flying Korps?

I thought the Turkish marking was a black square.
