He was a good guy and a great hero but he probably didn't should down MvR. It was probably ground fire; Australian.
I think he felt a lot more guilty for the act than the responsible party.

"When the war was over, Brown gratefully went back to civilian life. He operated an airline in Quebec and Ontario. When WWII started he ran for Parliament, but lost. He died of a heart attack at age 50, in 1944. Wilfrid "Wop" May went on to become an ace with 13 kills and one of Canada's most famous bush pilots. He was involved in the aerial tracking of Albert Johnston, the "Mad Trapper from Rat River", and performed many couragous acts opening Canada's hinterland with an airplane."

To be more specific, Brown ran for the Liberal party in the riding of woodbine in the general election of (1944?). He is buried nera his farm in Stouffville, Ontario, which is near Toronto. The best source of information on Roy Brown is either the net or Encyclopedia Canadiana. I believe he also wrote a book.

Man, I worked in Stouffville for two years. I didn't know Brown was burried there! Do you know where abouts? (I've also got to visit William Barker's tomb in Mount Pleasant Cemetary soon; any other stops in the Toronto area?)
