I am working on one icedent in 1917. CARL-AUGUST VON SCHOENEBECK (Jasta 11) writes in his memories about one day in the summer of 1917 when Jasta 11 was disturebed eating lunch. Three Britons (or at least British Airplanes) passed the Jasta's quartier.
Von Richthofen himself ordere three pilots to get the Alliied planes down - which happened a few minutes later.
The Germans were very amused to learn from the three Alliied pilotes, that they had a bet with their comrades: We bet that we can fly above the quartiers of Jasta 11 at 12.00 o'clock - while they are having lunch...
Does anyone know, who these three pilots were?

I suspect their names were Larry, Curly and Moe!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll have a look at the casualties for that day and get back to you.
It reminds me of a quote from the movie "Top Gun":
"the defence department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were STUPID"
I'm a dot

I'm having trouble finding a day in summer 1917 J11 scored three, any further info. (one day with three strutters but this was 50 kilometres from the aerodrome.) Any further information available?

Darryl

Or John Frost at Arnhem, who allegedly greeted a messenger from the Germans, who wanted to discuss terms of surrender, with:
"Out of the question old chap, We've absolutely no where to keep all of you"
