I have been playing RED Baron 2 for a short time,(but long enough to be good at it).Right now i have a pilot, his name is William Macintosh(BRITISH),Wit 32 kills in a Nieuport 11,Most of the aircraft i have downed have been AVITAK'S!! and about 3 fokkers, and i don't know how many balloons.I think it is a cool game.I want to hear about you're campaign's in RB2,so hey, lets talk about this.

Hmm, my best campaign was Leutnant Eugen von Schtirliz oct16-nov18. I had 98 kills including Bishop and Colinshaw, and was once demoted for shooting a friendly. (I kept telling them that Halbersdatd crashed by it self)
I got the Pour LeMerite with oakleafs and just about every other decorationn too. Did you get the latest 3d patch?
How do you find WON?

Cheers, Kit

Off and on, I've played RBII, and I have enjoyed it.

I've wondered ... sometimes ... that the 2 seaters don't offer better coordinated resistance. For example, you can almost always shoot a 2 seater down by approaching from the rear and below ... a favorite tactic of Bishop. This is fine, and legitimate; yet if the 2 seater flights would better cover each other, by circling & varying their altitude a little, the amount of time that a person could sit behind and beneath would be somewhat more limited. Instead, the wingmen of the 2 seater flight seem content to go on their merry way while I empty a drum into their hapless squadron mates. Point being that, a flight of two seaters for a lone enemy fighter, should be a fairly difficult nut to crack.
In general, it seems to me that as difficult as it was to shoot down an aircraft in WWI (particularly during the early years), it may have been more difficult to catch up with the enemy aircraft first. If I were a British 2 seater pilot EoL, and my obserever pointed out some fast approaching aircraft, it would have to be an urgent mission for me not turn my aircraft and head for the exit.

Overall, I've enjoyed RBII, especially since the more recent patches have become available. For example, your wingman is no longer ... necessarily ... a liability. Also, the increased sensitivity of the aircraft to both damaged and flight attitude is refreshing (Everyone who has nursed a crippled aircraft home sans upper wing, half of the lower right wing, and minus most of the tail plane please raise your hand).

One other thing: weather. I would like to see more complex weather scenario's (ie. stronger east-west winds, indepth clouds, turbulence, ect.). It had to be little unnerving for the Allied pilots to have face a 30 or 40 mph head wind on their way back west towards the front lines.

I would be interested in Battle of Britain flight simulation, done with the same competency as RII. Does anyone know of anything out there, or in the works.

I have "Flying Corps" not RB2, but second what was said about weather. Always the same! Always hazy on the horizon, always a thin layer of cloud at 10,000. Cumulus does not exist. That said the game otherwise is brilliant fun especially as I'm still finding my way around it. Shooting up a flight of BE2c yesterday was plausibly easy...

I REMEMBER "FLYING CORPS" AS HAVING VARYING WINDS AND CLOUD COVER, AT LEAST IN THE "CAMPAIGN" AREAS. I KNOW THAT WINDS SOMETIMES WOULD BLOW YOU OFF COURSE.

My campaign was done in patch 55 at 125 % realism. I tried to avoid fighter combat, and only make one pass at an enemy one seater, then trying to get away any way possible. I din't have any restarts, but a few stays at the hospital. A large percentage of my kills were against the french.
I find RB2 fm very faulty at some points, and the new black line horizon detestable, other wise it's a fun game!

Cheers, Kit

There is a lot of historical info in RBII that is incorrect that has been fixed ( as well as some fighter aces and squadron schemes ) in an unofficial patch which is available at :

http://www.golden.net/~ksharman/rb/Main.html

There are also some other sites which are :

http://members.xoom.com/artattack/index.htm

http://www.cagesworld.com/RedBaron2/index.htm

http://members.xoom.com/Flybert/index.htm

As for missions , haviong the difficulty on 125% isnt real , it means the novices fly as absolutely as best as they can as do the elite pilots , we have found 101 to 107 is the most real of that setting. Also RBII is blood thirsty as most games are so the rb2sim.ini file can be changed a little to make it less blood thirsty and for time to go a bit faster ( especially in the later part of the war ) , i will post a copy of that if anyone is interested. I have resrted to tricks to make the game more realistuic such as not use the lockdown keys such as F3 - e , i had a pilot who survived the war with 23 kills from march 1918 to end of war and only got DSO and DFC which is more real.

I have played Red Baron, the original, on and off for several years now. I never get sick of it, and get so addicted to it I sometimes feel the urge to call in sick for work. I do realize that RB II exists, and I do crave more realism and better graphics, but my friends and relatives will file a missing persons report...
