Most everyone knows that Hermann Göring had either an all-white or all-pale blue D.VII... it depends on how you view the issue of how the orthochromatic black-and-white photo film of the time was much like today's infrared film in recording gray tones...but a combat report from Warren Brown's book, "Child Yank Over the Rainbow, a work partially focusing on Joseph Boudwin, a flyer with both the RAF's 84 Squadron and with the US Air Service's 25th Aero Squadron (albeit for the latter unit's last four days of active duty in the War, from 11/8 to the Armistice) and the usual wingman to 5'2" Anthony Beauchamp-Proctor while at Bertangles with 84 Sq., reports of an all-RED D.VII as being flown by Goering!
On August 9, 1918, the same day Aldo Finzi flew as lead for the famous Gabriele D'Annunzio leaflet raid on Vienna, Proctor and Boudwin met up with an all-red Fokker D.VII that Boudwin (called Child Yank by the Brits-he was only 2" taller than Proctor!) came very close to shooting down...after two textbook-perfect attacks the red D.VII got onto Boudwin's tail and shot at him...after the fracas Proctor came over to Boudwin and told him that he had almost shot down Goering! BUT... did Goering EVER fly an all-RED D.VII??? I am a computer flight sim fan and have Red Baron 3D, and intend to recreate this air battle for the computer air combat fans, and also, with my return to the world of Radio Control Scale model aircraft, intend to research the records available on both 84 Squadron and on SE-5as in general to ascertain the most likely individual aircraft that Boudwin actually flew on that potentially momentous day- two Air-Britain books on just these subjects are available! BUT-still-did Goering ever fly an all-RED D.VII??? I'd love to find out more about this!
