Well, my top five choices are as follows.

1. Billy Bishop (Who else?)
2. Robert S. Johnson
3. Eddie Rickenbacker
4. Lance Wade
5. Geoffrey Fisken, probably the only NON-Finnish pilot to get at least 5 kills in the Brewster Buffalo, flying against the Japanese.

Al: Welcome back! The millennium hasn't been the same without you.
Now let's argue, connive, wheedle and snivel.
Bishop? Bishop Tutu?
Rickenbacker? Don't they make guitars???
Other non-Finn Buffalo aces were Clare and Vanderfield of No. 453 Sqn.
Gabreski's kill ratio was 1.473 per engagement in WW II and he also led squadrons & wings in Korea. Johnson's was 1.421. However, best average among the top the 56th FG guys was Fred Chrisetensen at 1.653 and Mahurin at 1.645 with Schilling at 1.5(Zemke 0.95)
Lance Wade's figure was 0.884 (though he does remain the only American citizen to make ace in the Hurricane.)
Ain't statistics wonderful?

21 Sqn and 453 Sqn RAAF and 488 Sqn RNZAF were part of the allied forces that got rolled back quick smart when the Japanese attacked Malaya. 21 and 453 ended up amalgamating as they only had 16 aircraft between them. Those aircraft soon went too.

Apparently they had a victory/loss ratio of two to one, but then, the Buffalo pilots had no shortage of targets to shoot at.

Below is a pic of 453 Sqn,

One of the most interesting victories of the South Pacific theatre in WWII was Jack Archer of 4 Sqn RAAF shooting down a Zero on Boxing Day 1942 in a CAC Wirraway.

Jack Archer and J Coulston below,

Leo,

Try typing “CAC Boomerang” into any of the search engines. You will get more than enough information. The Wirraway was a pre war trainer. The Boomerang was designed as an interceptor fighter in somewhat of a hurry. It performed best as a ground support aircraft.
