Thanks to Billy H., who's acquainted with Richard Duque, a French ambassador in Chicago (I think). No word yet from Duque, who was approached about a month ago by Billy on behalf of the GWMC (that's us!) re: the Frank Luke/Murvaux memorial restoration. In this case, no news is certainly bad news, but just thought some of 'ya would wanna know. At least the mayor isn't playing favorites... he doesn't reply to anyone.

I ain't givin' up.

Friend Steven: Richard Duque is the French Consul-General in NYC. I have another letter into him to uncover the delay in Murvaux. I am writing the American Air Attache in Paris for his help in coordinating our effort. Should the people of Murvaux reject our effort, perhaps we can place that plaque in front of the State Capitol in Phoenix. I think that the French will come around: theoy just do things more slowly than we do here. Billy H/12/14/99.

Thanks, Billy. I really would like to see this done on site at Murvaux, and I'm still hearing rumors that another group is already in the process of restoring the Murvaux monument, in which case I'd gladly back out... if they'd just say something! In the meantime, I'm gonna write my contacts within the Argonne Cemetary and the US Embassy in Paris again and see if they know any more.
