It is with regret that I announce the end of SLt. Gaston d'Escargot's brief flying career. Unfortunately he was shot down behind enemy lines, wounded, and spent the duration as a POW.
However, we announce the arrival of a new hero; 2nd leftenant Percival Bligh-Nelson. In only four days he has managed to shoot down 12 Hun planes (including MvR - TWICE!) and 2 balloons, earning the Military Cross in the process.
OK, it's not on the same scale as adding to the population, but any bit of glory counts.
Right?

No, no! What I said was, "It's a sick game. It's a sick game."

That's nothing, I have a pilot in Jasta 11, who shot down 14 Frenchmen (10 Neuports and 4 two-seaters) in two days.

Gotta love incediary rounds!

Incendiaries? Ahhhh...thanks. Those Aviatiks are murder to shoot down.
BTW, got MvR with a rocket first time around.

AHAH! I knew I wasn't the only one who loved those rocket thingies to shoot down airplanes! Always go to the briefing area and equip your Nieup with rockets before you go out. If you nail a two seater with a rocket - even in a wing - he'll flame in a few seconds and you don't have to leave the rest of the formation to follow him down. This makes for more kills, and you can often down an entire flight at a time. Use 'em only at near-collision range and you'll hit around 50% of the time.

My wicked DrI guy, Haupt. "Sappy" Groth, has 133 kills. My top Brit is still in N.11's in April of '16 and has 43. I've got up to 15 in one mission by hunting far behind enemy lines and conserving ammo.... but that's on RBII on the highest expert setting. Is RBII easier than RB3D?

And one more thing... when you're outnumbered and things are hopeless, land behind enemy lines and hit "return to sim." The bad guys will usually fly around for a minute and then leave... then you Albert-Ball-'em. Fire up your engine and fly home. Tee hee.

Just curious if anyone else has shot off an opponents undercarraige and also damaged the engine.

It is quiet interesting to see them attempt to land without any wheels, especially those French Nieuports.

I find it's good measure to turn around and strafe them if time is permitting.

Stephen,
You're sneaky, insidious, scheming and opportunistic. Have you considered entering politics?

I've SHOT the wheels off of a plane twice, but sadly, they crashed before they attempted to land. If you knock your wheels off of an Alb D2 in RB3D, the plane becomes extremely unstable, and falls out of the sky. Go figure. *grin*

If you're playing RBII without the 3D upgrade patch, then it is easier. Depending on what the last patch is that you're using.

RB3D is easier than RB3D with one or more of the UOPs(UnOfficial Patch) installed. In fact there's one that modifies the flight engine to make things a bit more "realistic". And, you can hit a plane with a rocket and he doesn't necessarily go down right away. The rockets in WWI weren't really as lethal as the unpatched game makes them out to be. They're primary usage was supposed to be observation balloons and Zeppelins.

IF you use any of the UOP's that are available, prepare to see your days of 5+ victories on one flight virtually disappear. I count myself lucky if I get 2, though I have gotten 4-5 on one flight, but that was usually heavy in balloons.

Although, I got my bar to the VC on a mission where I capped 7 balloons.
