The Aerodrome gave me my initial push toward discovering information on Victor Chapman back in April. Since then I have been able to include details of his life in my history of Chapman Field here in Miami, FL. The ultimate reward was discovering a WWI film with a clip of Victor. Now, in association with the University of Miami Film Department, I plan to make a documentary of Victor's life and his few years with the Escadrille Americaine. Naturally we are looking for funding. Can anyone suggest possible sources. We'd be very grateful.

A most worthwhile project! My personal interest in the mythology of WWI aviation was initially conceived, I believe, when I first read of the death of Victor Chapman. Could you use some fundamental information concerning sources of funding for independent film makers? If you would like the info. please post a note with a FAX #. VBR. Lee

Yes, although my initial thought was that there might be a group of WWI aviation enthusiasts who would be interested in funding a project such as this, we would like any information that could help bring it about. My fax number is: 305-238-9330. If you're interested in reading about the airfield named for Victor Chapman, I can send the link to our webpage.

Ray: You would think that the folks at Chapman Field would have a little grant money, especially for a project like yours, wouldn't you? I have made a standing offer to the Forum of donating one dollar from the sale of my book into the fund for restoration of the Luke memorial, and further to donate the same sum into a general research/project fund so that we could develope our own expertise and write our own books...But to date I haven't got any reaction-pro or con-to my proposal. You could go to your library which has a reference section relating to grants for writing military and aviation history, and the Internet has a similar site. VBR, Billy H/12/07/99.
