Wilhelm Heinrich Otto DIX (* 2.December 1891 Gera; + 25.July 1969 Singen) lived a long time in Dresden. He is famous especially for his paintings "Der Krieg" and "Der Schützengraben", which were showing the war in its full horror.
Dix served on the Western and the Eastern front between Fall 1915 and mid-August 1918, when he was wounded and decided to volunteer for the Fliegertruppe. He took part in a "Fliegerabwehr-Kurs" in Tongern, was promoted to Vizefeldwebel and after passing the medical tests transferred to Aviation Replacement Unit Schneidemühl in Silesia. 22.December 1918 he was released there and was back home at Christmas.
I studied a little book about Dix and have seen he was drawing also at least two airwar related pictures:
Der Krieg IV/3 "Lens wird mit Bomben belegt" (Radierung, 1924) and
Der Krieg IV/9 "Durch Fliegerbomben zerstörtes Haus (Tournai)" (Aquatina, 1924) - showing the horrible suffering of the civil population.
That was just only for information (for "lovers of art").
My (exotic) question:
Did he paint or draw other airwar related pictures, too? (I admit that is more the question for an art shop and has not a lot of chances.)
