Hi all
The second un-verified victory by Udet is his Victory on 24 April 1917.
I could not find the report of this victory in his first book, but in the book "Mein Fliegerleben" he described the circumstances of this victory as follows:
On the 24 April was I succesful for the first time on this front. I attacked a french Nieuport over Chavignon and was able after a short turning-fight to make the Nieuport to erupt in Flames. Thereafter I saw the remains of this aircraft chrash into the ground..
This was my fifth confirmed Victory.
Other sources as the Jasta War Chronicle gives the time for this victory to be 19:30.
Udet was at this time flying within the 7 German Army in the Laon area.
Another Nieuport was claimed by Vfw Albert Hausmann from Jasta 23 as his second confirmed victory at Beaurieux time 16:05. Jasta 23 flew in the same area ... 7 German Army.
A Spad-1s was also claimed by Offst Paul Felsmann from Jasta 24 at Prunay time 10:12 as his second confirmed victory. Jasta 24 did flew within the area of the 1 German Army.
Oblt Dostler did shot down a french Caudron at Ablonville as his 6th victory.
The German Flak units did not claimed any French aircrafts according to Nachrichtenblatt.

Also this victory by Udet could possible be verified if there exists French losses which matches times and location...?

Has anyone any clue or sugestions..?

Thanks in advance
Gunnar

Hi Gunnar !
Thank you very much for your informations on 24 December 1916 FAA 211 victories...
The 24 April 1917 was a great day for the French, as they shot down 8 German planes confirmed and 8 unconfirmed for only 3 recorded losses :
- Sgt Xavier Boiteux-Levret (N 81), KIA on Nieuport 23 # 2937 in the French IV° Armée sector.
- Cpl René Ménard (N 85), Injured (not WIA !) on a Nieuport 23 in the IV° Armée sector.
- Sgt Marcel Carton (a pilot of a Farman unit), Injured (not WIA !).
Unfortunately I have no other details...
Christophe.

Thank you Christophe
It seems by your documentation that only 1 of 4 German claims against the French could be verified...
I have a note from the German list of enemy aircraft which fell in their lines during April 1917 that Niuep.1s 2937 was flown by the pilot Adj. Jacques Cirieyes who was reported POW.
I have another note that this pilot belonged to Esc N 517(519?) and was shot down on the 16 April 1917. Did the German mixed up the S/N or name/date..?

In the article of Esc 81 by Frank W Bailey in CC Vol 21/1 from 1980 Serg, Boiteux-Levret was reported flying in a Spad-1 when being killed..
So if he is correct the only verified claim is that by the Saxon Jasta 24..
Does anyone has any comments on that..?

VBR
Gunnar
