Captain Robert Alexander Little DSO* DSC* CdeG
I need information on this Australian Pilot who flew in the RNAS from 1916 till his death on 27 May 1918. Australia's highest scoring ace of any conflict, the 8th highest Allied pilot of WW1 and the 14th highest overall in WW1 but is relatively unknown in his own country. Please help! Pictures, anecdotes, published material - all will help compile a satisfactory tribute to this great man. Thanks in advance. Steve

I am also interested in Captain R. A. Little, but from a slightly different perspective. You see, Little flew the airplane (I am even more interested in aircraft than the pilots) that I am most attracted to- The 'Tripe' or Sopwith Triplane. My goal is a complete record of all the activities of the 150 or so produced as well as pics of all, and as much as possible on their pilots.
Being only an interested amatuer, I can but direct you to paths I have found promising and of a few 'gems' garnered along the way.
Do you have or have you seen "Above the Trenchs" (1990) Franks, et al.? Little has a couple of pages there and an attempt at a definitive victory list is made.
What do currently have?
The RAF has a site- have you been there?

Good hunting!!!

Hi Steve,
I notice from your Email address you are a serving member of the RAN. Here are some leads.
The RAAF's Air Power Study Centre here in Canberra has just published a new book 'Australian Fighter Aces 1914-1953' by A D Garrison. It has a 5-6 page bio on Little.
Try http://www.dod.gov.au/apsc/ for a look or to order it.
A good source with a fair bit on Little is Military Aircraft of Australia 1909 -1918 by Keith Isaacs. It can be found around the 2nd hand bookshops or check out the Defence Library system for a copy.

Drop me a line if I can be of any more help.

Cheers
