Forumites: I don't know about anybody else, but my coal-burning computer now shows only this and two other threads. Everything previous is gone. (Which, I admit, may not be an entirely bad thing.)
Maybe The Megathread (which, BTW, Scott has to pay for) has turned upon the forum and is consuming itself from the inside out.

I have the same problem on my treadle-computer.
I hope that the Forum doesn't begin to sing like the old HAL of Kubrick's movie "A space Odissey".
VBR to all if you are able to read this.

Barrat, do please enlarge on what you have said about Scott having to pay for the Megathread. Speaking for myself I enjoy the off beat contributions to be found down there in the back of beyond, but I would not want our host to be out of pocket for the sake of a giggle.

In Australia the ISP's make you pay by the Mb of bandwidth you suck amongst other fee's. A page which sends 100 Kb down the pipe each time it is hit adds up fast. If your company is larger and can afford it's own infrastructure, you can lease ISDN or T1 lines at flat rates, I think the going rate is about 250$ for an ISDN line. It all depends how you are hooked up and to what pricing plan.

The other alternative is to get a cable hookup and a static IP address. When cable finally gets to this area of the Pine Barrens, that will be the way the AFC site will end up. Slower but if you dont have tonnes of traffic, is no real big deal.

Ok, but Scott is in the USA, not Australia. And based on what you say, he'd have to pay for EVERYTHING that is posted here on the forum.

I know my ISP allows a certain amount of bandwidth to each subscriber, based on the type of account. While I'm sure that Scott has some sort of similar deal (at least I hope he does), there may indeed be a limit. In which case, if he exceeds it, perhaps he'd be better off putting this on something like Delphi Forums, which gives people free space for their forums. I have two, one which is sort of semi-active, the other of which is just starting to catch on.

There is a 3rd one I created when this first went down, but I may rename it and use it for something else.

VBR,

Al Lowe

Hoo-boy, nobody's gonna convince me that these things don't have a mind of their own. As I recall, Vin began this thread and I responded to it but now *I'm* the initiator! Not guilty! I didn't do it! I was having dinner with the governor--honest!!!
My reference to the webmaster bearing the expense is based on standard practice (OK, for the rest of the English-speaking world, "practise") rather than specifics of this site.

Barrett

practice = noun
practise = verb

That’s the way it is in this part of the English-speaking world. Never heard of it being otherwise when was doing my stint in the Old Dart. Must be the Canadians and / or New Zealanders

…as to authorship of the thread. Be my guest.
