Manfred von Richthofen vs von T.

In October 1915 Manfred von Richthofen tried to make his first flight examina - but failed!
Richthofen wrote the "judge" was a "Herr v. T.".
The next letter of MvR - quotated in "Der rote Kampfflieger" - was written from the town Rethel.
I think there was an Aviation park there and Immelmann and his (former) observer von Teubern operated in the same sector. Herr von Teubern had also a prewar flying licence. So I guess maybe Herr von Teubern was the "judge" for MvRs examination.

There where two Saxon brothers von Teubern who served in the German Air Force in WW1.
Walter von Teubern served first as an obeserver in Festungsfliegerabteilung Metz from from June to September 1913. He then trained to pilot at Johannisthal and soloed alreday in Nov 1913 and thereafter until theRe: Manfred von Richthofen vs von T. Interesting, I did not know that. All these flying members of the noblesse seem to occur at least in "double pack": von Teubern, von Minckwitz, von Hesler. I am just changing letters with a man who´s father and two of his uncles were flying in WWI! He reported one of his uncles - the ace von Haebler - was killed by the handgranade of a British infantryman. The GOGS did never mention that. I hope to get more details.

PS: Refering to the map of Loschwitz/Weisser Hirsch - these people 80-100 years ago did not know about satellites and so on but made maps more reliable and interesting than everything today produced for common customers.

There was indeed problem with the Forum Yesterday.
I made a rather longe writing about the von Teubern brothers and only fragments "landed" on the Forum.
I can e-mail you the longer notes afterwards. But here is some short comments:
Ehrhardt von Teubern(the other brother) was a friend to Immelmann already before the War. He trained to obeserver in early 1915 and was together with Immelmann one of the original members of FFA 62. But he and Bölcke was transfered to BAM in September 1915. There was Bölckes order to fly 1-s for the protection of the Bombers and Ehrhardt was unlucky not to fly with Bölcke. In late 1915 Ehrhardt leaved BAM for an operation.
So the possible von Teubern(If it was von Teubern) ought to be Walter who had joined FFA 29 as a pilot at the beginning of the War.
Both brothers survived the War and also survived WW2 serving in the Luftwaffe.

I think also there exist a short article about Walter von Teubern in one of the earlier Cross & Cockade.

I am interesting of the Lt von Heslers(brothers?). One Lt Friedrich von Hesler served in the famous FA 300 (Pascha) in Palestina in 1916 and scored one victory as an obeserver..
Do You have additional info...?

Hi Gunnar, there were three brothers with the name von Hesler: Friedrich Wilhelm von Hesler, Dr. jur., *Elberfeld 11.11.1891, + Wiesbaden 9.1.1950 Carl Albert von Hesler, *Elberfeld 28.4.1893 + Prien 3.11.1987 (German way of writing dates!) These both were members of the Fliegertruppe. The third was Wilhelm Robert von Hesler *Elberfeld 21.5.1895 + gefallen Bouchavesnes 14.9.1916. Ask me later again because I have until now problems to differentiate between the two fliers. A man with name von Hesler was signing often the Kofl/Stofl reports of the 3rd German Army but he was not the Kofl/Stofl. I am still waiting for the reply to my last questions to Mr von Hesler. One thing is clear: Carl maried the sister of the dead fighter ace von Haebler and I am changing letters with the son of both, Hans-Gottfried von Hesler. VBR Hannes PS: O´Connor wrote in his vol.3 about the Saxon awards: "Windisch as Staffelführer of Jasta 66 in his Fokker D.VII with leaping stag. The marking was taken from the symbol of the hospital in his native town Dresden where he recuperated after being wounded in the infantry in late 1914." More next week.

I ordered two of the Beck books (Windisch, Büchner) and some other stuff already via my military library but it can last some additional weeks or even month. I made some notes of the manuscript in Strausberg in July but nothing about the White stag.
