I believe there is only one original Bristol Bullet left-on display in a small town in South Australia.I am told it was purchased by an Australian RFC pilot (Butler?) in England soon after the war ended and used to fly mail in South Australia in the twenties. Can anyone verify?

Apparently in Minlaton, South Australia. It is in it's Civil colours as it got modified to a two seater for commercial reasons when brought out. There are quite a few WWI aircraft that came out to Australia post war that went missing, like the RE8 Sylvia, which had done the most hours of any aircraft over the enemy lines. Thankfully the Bristol survived and on my hit list/ visit list when I get back to Au.

Yep, there's a Bristol M1C at the town of Minlaton in South Australia. It was one of two brought to Australia by Captain Harry Butler. It was serialled C5001 (it never carried its civil registration G-AUCH). It was painted overall red with 'Red Devil' written on the nose.
The aircraft has a flat sided fuselage which was modified when it was fitted with a Gypsy engine in about 1930. When it was presented to Minlaton a Le Rhone was fitted but the fuselage was left modified.
The second aircraft was serialled C4964 and arrived in Australia after his death in 1923. Nothing is known of its fate (as far as I know).
I've never seen the aircraft but read about it a book called The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft in Australia and New Zealand.

Apparently at the Flypast Museum at the Army Airfield at Oakey, Qld, there is a Boxkite and Repro F2b. Anyone seen them?

The website is at : <a href='http://www.home.aone.net.au/eljasa/flypast.html

"BRISTOL' target='_blank'>http://www.home.aone.net.au/eljasa/flypast...R>
"BRISTOL</a> BOXKITE - Training aircraft used in 1913.
BRISTOL F2B C4623 - Replica of craft flown in Palestine in WWI."

Might be time to compile a list for the web of all WWI aircraft and repro's in Australia/New Zealand as well as AIrcraft overseas in AFC markings or in the markings of Au or NZ pilots.

Peter,

>I am expecting to drive to QLD in a month so where is this Oakey ,location of the museum.I will be coming in from NT.<

Ive never been north of the border so dont know. The website seems to suggest it is in the Toowoomba/Dalring Down area. Says about 2 hours outside of Brisbane?

The Toowoombanow website says "Toowoomba is nestled on the eastern rim of the Great Dividing Range, a gateway to the sweeping, scenic landscapes of the Eastern Downs."
also
"Nearby attractions include Jondaryan Woolshed, the Museum of Army Flying at Oakey and Rudd's Pub at Nobby "

So guess it in the Toowoomba region. If it helps Oakeys latitude and longitude is
Lat : deg 27 min 26 sec 0
Lon : deg 151 min 43 sec 30

If that helps. If your in the Northern Territory you probably carry a GPS at all times rofl.

The Aviation Museum website is at : http://www.home.aone.net.au/eljasa/flypast....html

If
you go there make sure you take plenty of pics and take notes too on the history of the Boxkite if it is authentic

I think the Darling Downs was the 5th Lighthorse recruiting area too.

Thanks Cam.I think I can find it with your info. The first bit ,to the QLD border, is easy as there is only one road.
