I need help again deciding on which book(s) to get on the Lafayette Esc. ive decided first on the lafayette esc pilot biography book. but i need more info on what other books, in order, i should get.
i might be able to get vivid air: the lafayette esc, and i know i can get 'men at war: the lafayette esc'.

Ron:

The best single volume would have to be Phil Flammer's THE VIVID AIR. Flammer became a personal friend and confidant of Paul Rockwell (unofficial archivist of the Lafayette Escadrille) and had full access to all his records.

Another good book from a different perspective is Captain Thenault's memoirs, published in French, but reprinted in English as THE LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE. It's available from The Battery Press.

Herbert Malloy Mason's book is OK, and probably pretty good for its time. Whitehouse's book is better than most of his efforts, but must be read with a grain of salt - his blatant biases call his veracity into question.

Hope this is of some help.

VBR,

Ira
