Mike,
You know what MARINE stands for????!!!!
Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential! Hey bud, I am currently in Gators, I work with Marines all the time. Sorry to say that I have found Grunts not to be exceedingly bright about common sense issues. Airdale Marines are much more on the ball. However when we were deployed all the Grunts seemed to do was to be underfoot, occupying valuable space and using up breathable oxygen. However, back to the original discussion. I am at least glad to know that you have served. But cut the documentary guys a sprout, they aren't as fanatical about attention to detail as we military types are. N'cest pas?
Regards,
Jim

P.S. You being in the Marines, here's some sage advice "cave ne ante ullas catapultas ambules!"

I'm also interested in knowing more about Lo Zink. Does anybody know who she was and what became of her? Was she married to Udet or just his girl friend?
Jim "Ace" Count your blessings! Without the Jars, YOU would have to guard the brig, eat all the poggie bait and jam the coke machine with worthless foreign coins.

I've read that Fraulein Lo was the daughter of Munich's mayor. Or perhaps another major city. At any rate, she met EU early enough for him to carry her name on aircraft as early as his Albatros D.III in J.37 in much the style of his JG.I D.VII and in a small outlined box on his Dr.I.
She was a babe who obviously was not put off by Udet's 5-ft-4 stature.

V Gates,
Who do ya think does that when they are not embarked? The Keebler Elves? Some of the Navy's fine youth are doing that very thing. That is not endemic to just one branch of service. BTW I have many Marine buddies, and what I posted earlier was written in the spirit of a friendly rivalry. Ok!

Jim

Jim,

BEFORE you found out he was a Marine, your responses were hardly "friendly"! He pointed out obvious errors in the program, which could have been avoided with simple research and attention to detail. You responded to "Mikey" as if such things should not matter, and we should be uncritically grateful to THC for even making the program.

I have not yet seen the program, but will catch it on Sunday when it is repeated (5PM Eastern), and I expect to enjoy it. I also expect to see gaffes and inaccuracies, which we've come to expect (and some accept) from THC.

I've stated this before...although Roger Mudd is just a "news reader" and perhaps not personally responsible for the errors he "read", he once wished to be thought of (like most TV newsmen) as a serious journalist. A journalist analyzes and reports that which will become History, and should strive for accuracy in whatever he presents. When I see sloppy research and glaring errors in a program about a subject where I have some knowledge, it only makes me wonder what they got wrong when reporting on subjects where I'm less knowledgeable - and diminishes their overall credibility.

Padre Rich,
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! He came across as being a perfectionist in an imperfect world. Your average Joe blow wouldn't know (or even care) how many victories any ace in WW1 had. So I called him on it! Yes we should be grateful that THC aired it, how many other documentaries on WW1 Aces (besides MvR & Goering) have you seen? Answer...NOT TOO MANY! Be happy to get the one's we do! I am!
VBR,
Jim

Dear Jim:

I hate to be critical of fellow former swabbies, but you do seem to have your noise out of joint, of late. I guess no more than some of the rest of us from time to time. Where did you learn your Latin?

Leo,
Rich and I have gone round and round since he first showed up here...nothing new. As for Mike, I just get a little irked when people expect perfection from an imperfect science. History is a collection of documentation based on either eye witnesses, or records which can be 90 percent accurate at best. To expect the media types to be 100% accurate is a tad unrealistic! Yes it was a slam to Udet to mistate his victory record, but in an odd way it's a compliment to him to say that a picture of Boelcke is a picture of him. I just figured that those being the only 2 mistakes I saw out of the show, that overall the show was pretty well researched and did fill in alot about Ernst Udet's latter years. If they had made many major errors in the production of the show, then I feel that Mike's criticism of THC would be perfectly valid. But then let's put it in simpler terms...if he expects a little leeway when he makes a mistake, then shouldn't he be willing to give it!
All the other crap I put in about Marines was just said tongue in cheek! If he was offended in anyway by it, I do formally apologize here and now to him.
I started learning Latin years ago as an Altar Boy.
VBR,
Jim

Jimbo's ONLY purpose at this forum is to fight. Too bad we can't get a count of how many folks he's ran off since he slithered into this forum.

Just two questions ... How long have you been on here? And how do you even know what my purpose is here? BTW here's a third question...ARE YOU in the Forum's Legion of Honor? I am! Probably better pack this one in sonny!
Later dude,
Jim
