How did the DVIII compare to the Allied planes it would have met if it entered service a few months earlier? Was it a good turner or more a boom and zoom type fighter?

It may not be a valid standard, but apparently the D-VIII was credited with one aerial victory: as I recall, J.6 in August '18. However, manufacturing and material defects seriously limited its operational use.
Having logged a fair amount of hangar-flying cockpit time in a full-scale repro, I can say that the little hummer has excellent visibility, including (if you stretch your neck enough) over the top of the wing. The nickname "Razor" gives an idea of how hard it was to see head-on.

All I have to go on is the testimony of a precious few Brit pilots who may have encountered the flying razor once or twice. I understand that it was most definately a dogfighter, and if the war had gone on for a bit we'd have some incredible stories of Snipe vs. Razor battles. Those two were apparently made for each other but some spoilsport ended the war too soon.

Those of you who would like to fly the Razor in RB3d can have a look at http://members.xoom.com/beery1/Baron.html
You do need the Campaign Manager to install this patch. (this is also available at the same site)
