The yellow Dr1 rudder rumoured to be held in store by the IWM exists and is pictured here alongside another for color comparison. I am informed that the pattern, disposition, and date of manufacture of the hinges indicate a late production Dr1. This does not effect any speculation that F103/17 had a yellow rudder, but it does nail the myth that this may be part of the Voss triplane.

Mark,

I'd love to see the picture, but cannot bring it up on my computer - either the smaller or enlarged version. Are you sure the link's a good one? I also have L'Escadrille in my Favorites list, but haven't been there in a while, and can't bring it up from that list, either.

I have posted these pictures on Marks behalf as he does not have access to web space and is not familiar with HTML. I know of 3 or 4 others having problems seeing the scans, but others experience no difficulty which suggests net problems rather than a bad link. My appologies to those experiencing difficulty, please persevere and hopefuly they will resolve themselves.

There is no doubt that the rudder is yellow but...

The hinges suggest it it isn't Voss's plane because of date of manufacture? So I guess this means were back at square one when it comes to what color was Voss's plane. I'm going to stick with the original silber-blau.

I'm aware of the colors used at Jasta 10 but considering the paint scheme that Voss had on his Albatros and the lack of similar decorations on the Dr1, I'm guessing he didn't get around to painting it in the month or so he had it.

The yellow rudder that was said to be Voss's have the later model hinges, They have a slot that you can clearly see yellow through. I don't beleive that the Dr1 would have had these until the 400/17 or later production. These are very much like the D-7 hinges that were used in 1918. This means I do not believe that this could have been Voss's rudder.
