Hey, fellow forumites! I dunno a thing about web-flying RBII/3D, but I'd enjoy giving it a try. If I'm gonna do this, I want to be sure and find a low-level commitment (one that I can fulfill) and see if there's a squadron where I can fly with as many of my fellow forumites as possible. Any such animal to be found? I cannot fly on most weekends or past around 8pm, so I'm somewhat restricted. Does that rule everything out totally? And obviously, I need a group that takes rookies. Please advise. Many thank yoos.

Stephen,
I, too, wanted a low-level commitment, at first, but then I became addicted. There is nothing like flying with and against humans as compared to the computer AI. Try it you'll like it. Come to the dark side, Stephen. The grass is greener over here...
Your restrictions on time sound like a challenge, though. Most squads "require" you to participate in practices and wars, and unfortunately it all seems to happen on the weekends and after 8PM EST. Almost all squads take newbies, we all were newbies once, some squads are specifically for the experienced so be aware of that.
I am a memeber of JG1 Jasta 6. Come to our website and look around. We're pretty typical. There's a link there to other squad sites, both GAS (the white hats ;o) ) and Allied (there's British, American, and I think a French squad now).
Good luck
Paul aka JG1vonSchpam_J6

Stephen,
I ran accross a sight for a squadron that was looking for a few good men and they were calling themselves the 17th Aero Squadron US. They were going to fly many types and didn't have restrictions-even said if you couldn't make all practices that was ok. I'll try to re-find the site. May have been on the new red baron forum under heading of "recruiting Squadrons" or some such.

Stephen,
Fly more on MMP and see what squads you like. See how they act online, and if that's how you want to be like...or if you are interested in them...ask one of their members.
I fly with "WingWalkers" and we like people who are sorta hardcore...that is folks who are crazy about WWI aviation and the game. We do not care how crappy a flyer you are we have an extensive training program to get people up to speed. All we ask is that people put in the time and not be afraid to be friends. We usually fly both sides, but currently there is fewer allied squads so we fly allied.
For casual play I recommend J37, Lone Wulffe and KA7 for German or Phantom fighters, KNS, and possibly RAF209 for Allied.

Yes LoneWulffe is a good choice. As for WWs being crappy....I've never seen a WW that was a bad pilot...You guys rock. Now I don't know if this is true but I've heard a few things about RAF209....I hope there false, after all RAF Droops & HiEnergy are good people.
There are tons of choices & I hope you find the right one.

If you're interested in flying an online WWI sim, why not check out "Dawn of Aces". I've never flown RBII (just the original RB), but I understand the DoA FM is far more realistic than RBII. The only comment I've heard from DoA pilots about the differences between the two is: "No comparison". I do believe the price is comparable tho; $9.95 US/mo unlimited. More info on DoA is available at our squadron website: *Flying Aces* DoA Fighter Squadron

1) What is MMP?
2) Is DoA a better game? Your comments are solicited, please.
3) Is there is huge difference in the quality of pilots (and their records) between the hard core squadrons and the casual squadrons? Do the hard core guys clean house every time, or can the casual squads at least be competitive?
4) Why hasn't anyone started a Forumites Squadron? (Am I on to something?)

I tried DOA...and well I thought it was just plain DOA. It's true it FM is good, but it's DM(damage model) is pathetic, it was a real turn off for me. I think Red Baron's damage model is much better, and as for the FM there are better UNOFFICIAL ones out there for use in tournaments. DOA reminded me of Space Invaders.
As for Hard core squads VS casual...well there are hotshots in casual squads and there are some in hardcore ones. The real test is when it's 12 VS 12 then you really see who's been training and who's been just running around in the circle jerk.
MMP is the short for Mega Multi Player and is a general referance for all Servers when you hit that multiplayer button in RB3D.
My personal preference right now is to only fly organized events like Keith's squad is with the "Air War", a few carefully tracked engagments over a historical period during 1918.
