Hi Phil,
Just wandering through some old posts and spotted yours. Some things I can tell you about the 425/17 fabric are;
Alex Imrie headed up the authentication of the fabric. He has many very large prints of the fabric sample, and studied it in detail. I believe they did some chemical analysis, and possibly dating, I don't know if it was carbon-14, but it was done scientifically.
The fabric didn't sell at the auction. After the auction a deal was made by a fellow out of Georgia. I believe he paid $25,000. I know that is expensive, but I think worth the investment.
I can't believe a high rolling German or a German corporation didn't step up and buy the thing for the "Fatherland". I may be able to find out more about who purchased it, but I'm not certain. You could contact Imrie. I have his address, and have visited him personally, and correspond with him reguarly.
Best Wishes,
Dave Watts
