Hello,

I am currently collecting pictures of crashed planes and the results. I will add them to a web page to show that the air-war was not romantic. Please could you send me pictures of crashed planes with or without the people inside.

Thanks

Ben

I am not into death or anything. I think ppl who think that the airwar was romantic is wrong. What is so romantic about shooting someone down and killing them? I do not mean to offend anyone.

Ben;
We have a president who feels the same way you do, he would rather pay others to do his fighting for him. Later, you both can pan the military for being dirty killers while you sit in your easy chairs.

I don't believe any war can be termed romantic.
I'm pretty sure that 99% of the aces of the great war went out on missions at dawn thinking,"isn't this romantic. Alot of them were probably pretty scared, anxious and a few of them really excited and feeling pretty macho and confident.
War is serious business. Death is serious. I don't find warfare romantic but I do find it interesting and compelling. The harrowing tales of escape by the skin of the teeth. It's this survival test that I find so interesting.
War is a scary and moving experience. Why do you
think Saving Private Ryan won so many academy awards. War's something I hope to never live through. But if I'm ever called I'll serve (since I signed up for selective service). I
really don't want to live with somebodies death on my hands, or of course be killed in war. But
I find the stories of others who have lived and died in previous engagements interesting. Most hardcore combat veterans don't like to talk about their war time experiences with any sense of relish (as I understand it). My grandfather certainly didn't.

Jeni,
I think you're knee-jerking on this one. All Ben is doing is voicing an anti-war opinion. It's not the same as the two-faced Bubba protesting a war that he might have to fight, then turning around and wasting young lives to enhance his own political stature.
War is ugly, cruel, brutal, and (alas) often necessary. But one of the reasons that a lot of men are willing to die is to protect Ben's right to express his opinion, as well as your right to express yours.
Regards,
Mike

I have collected a few of what you're looking for. So far no gruesome shots though. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen a photo of a downed WWI a/c with the pilot still onboard. I doubt this type of thing would be common.
Enjoy. http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Zone/...914/archive.htm

Hello Liebchen

I think you misunderstood what Ben was saying. There really is nothing romantic about war. Sometimes it is a necessary evil. While we admire the courage of those brave persons who "Bore the Battle" we have to keep in mind all the other circumstances of war itself. Look at the pictures of dead mothers holding their infants in their arms from the Lusitania. That's sheer tragedy. Let's honor those who defend and preserve us and our rights but abhor the circumstances under which they do so. I think my years with the 82nd Airborne Division and the XVIIIth Airborne corps remove me from the list of Jodies.

Your Still Faithful Servant
