Day before yesterday (Tuesday) there was a very brief announcement that the FBI had released "new" information on the kidnaping and death of Charles Lindbergh's baby. I cannot find any further mention of it--anybody pick up anything? It's been speculated that the timing of the revelation after 60-odd years is a tad bit peculiar, given the bureau's continuing reputation meltdown, but still the topic is of interest. (WW I content: Lindy flew postwar SE-5s in Texas.)

Dear Barrett:

The information was released and made public by the National Archives in Washington, DC.

Regards,
Cliff

Hi all,

I'm presently reading a book on C.A.L., and a little fun fact is that the sheriff for the small town that headed up the investigation of the kidnapping, (and was kept in charge at Charles' request), is the father of General Schwartzkof of the Gulf War fame.

Is there a site where I can find this "new" information, or do I have to go to D.C.?

Best,
Dave Watts

The General's father was the head of the New Jersey State Police and he did lead the investigation. He hated Hauptman from their first meeting, because Hauptman had been a machine gunner in the German Army during WW-I and was stupid enough to brag about killing dozens of Americans. But, that only made him a murderer in Schwartzkopf's eyes.

I
believe that Col. Schwartzkopf also returned to the Army and had an important post in the Occupation forces in Germany, 1945.
