John,
Sorry....I re-read your post. I missed the facetious part first time around. Mea Culpa.

Only 11? My cat calls that a "warm-up".

Mike, you better read my tongue in cheek reply again. 3000 years ago the priests in Egypt banned swords from the general populace: result, packs of wild dogs proliferated and tore citizens to bits. I'm an Armenian. My grandfather was denied weapons by the Turkish government and thousands of unarmed Armenians were slaughtered... more than during the "holocaust". I have been a pistolsmith, gun writer and law enforcement firearms instructor for over 50 years. Please, don't place me on the New World Order side. Thanks. Let's get back to WW-I aviation before we organize a militia.

John Lawson makes sense! That is, if you ignore what was actually posted, and think knee-jerk brain-cramp no-thought paranoia is trenchant argument. You can keep your gun too, my friend. But I dispute your "Constitutional "right to a machine gun for any reason.P.S. John- try sticking to the issue next time.Reread the content of the posting you reply to before you post a snotty reply....

Devil's Advocate,
I SAID earlier that I don't think that the American General public needs to have machine guns. Talk about reading one's posts! But let's be really honest here boys and girls...GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. A gun is nothing more than an inanimate object, it takes a human brain to send the impulse to the finger, to activate the trigger, of course that's based on the presumption that the thing is loaded in the first place. But you know that crime and violence were around LONG before the gun ever came on the scene. It all started way back when man first picked up a rock and brained his fellow man in a fit of rage. So lets keep things in perspective there boyo! Rethink the thought processes that got you there and lay blame where blame is due...on the human element themselves.
VBR,
Jim

Advocate (of what we'll discuss later}. your Socratic logic would make Karl Marx proud. When you have no argument, throw epithets.
Your sophomoric idea of stopping violence has never worked in human history, and never will. But, then, you already know that. It isn't your knee you are jerking. Worst of all, you actually think you are an intellectual. You are, if you add "pseudo" to the word.
The carnage caused by gunshot wounds is so low as to be virtually non-existant next to car accidents attributed to drug use.

JimAce- I did read your reply, and I thought we actually came to a semblance of common ground on this issue. The scathing review previously was in response to the inference, by John L., that I was stating 'taking away guns will take away crime', plus some clumsy humor...this argument line, NOT FOR A MOMENT present or inferred by me, is the typical rhetoric of someone who only sees 2 absolutes to the issue and no room for other points of view- youre either 'NRA' or "weenie liberal", nothing exists in between; which is the argument of the simple.I'm not going to repost what I've already stated as my views, but I object to someone stating my views for me, incorrectly.(I believe you have experienced this problem, JimACE!!!)

Hey, gang....
I originally posted this thread in support of a writer whom I greatly admire, and in defense of the first amendment, which I perceived to be in danger from an "offended minority".
While we have strayed from the original point, it's good to see that the first amendment is still alive and well.
"Let a thousand blossoms bloom. Let a thousand thoughts contend." Too bad Chairman Mao didn't practice what he preached.
Regards to all.

And P.s.,john-what exactly IS my 'sophomoric idea for stopping violence?' It must have been posted there somewhere....feel free to make that up too. Your arguments would make Don Quixote proud, my friend; tilt at nonexistent windmills all you want; I tire of this exercise in futility. If you READ MY POSTS AS I ASK YOU TO, you might just find that I am NOT FOR COMPLETE FIREARMS CONTROL.OR TAKING AWAY YOUR GUN.Get over it.

I agree with Jim & many others on this subject. It's kind of sad that people are trying to atke away our rights. As for the crime rate, look at Switzerland oneof the lowest crime rates in the world & it just so happens that 8 out 10 familys own guns! Where I live we have a low crime rate becuse we ALL have guns & know how to use them. Where I live guns just aren't there for fun there there because we use them all of the time. I'm 13 now & have been hunting with guns since I was 10, now some people say thats too young but I respect guns, I know they are deadly & know how to use them. Taking away guns is one of the biggist mistakes this country could make. If you don't want guns....DON'T get guns! And leave us alone!
Keith,
But what would I know? I'm just a kid
