Do you think Buford and the Day Trader Shooter might have thought twice about their rampages if they had known that the people(targets) inside were armed with concealed weapons and had been trained and licensed to use them? The reason these idiots even THINK about commiting these crimes is becausethey know no one will be shooting back. You have to get training and a license to drive a car. Everyone in this country should be able to get trained, lcensed and carry a concealed weaponif they want to. The ILLEGAL gun owners would have cause to worry then.
blue skies,
Dan

Wouldn't be without one off duty. Once, an armed citizen came to my aid in a bad situation and saved my life.

Jay, when have you ever heard of innocent bypassers killed accidently by a knifing between rivaling gangs?

Sorry I can't think of the city where this took place... an armed, would-be criminal decides to hold up a gun shop. Yes, I said a gun shop. With an off-duty officer shopping inside. Yes, I said an armed, off-duty officer inside. Along with about half a dozen legally armed, law abiding citizens.

The criminal in question pulled out his weapon and announced his sinister intent. Roughly 6 citizens, the off-duty officer, and the store's clerk all pulled out legally owned private handguns and responded accordingly. When they pulled the bullets out of his corpse, they found that only the clerk and the officer had fired... by that time everyone else considered it redundant. This is not the preferred method of dealing with crime, but when lives are on the line, private weapons are indeed a quite effective means of personal defense...

Justice hath been served.

Stephen. it was Seattle, Washington.
Axel, street gangs do not participate in contact sports. Today they use stolen 9mm pistols. The last felonius street punks I know of armed with knives were the Vikings. And yes, they killed a lot of innocent bystanders with their blades.

Jay, please do not mix up accidently hurt or killed in a shootout (or knifing) and deliberate attacks.

ccidental gunshot wounds account for fewer deaths than slipping in the bath tub. Put that in perspective. And, if you want to stop the violence, convince our teachers to teach some morality. We had amazingly little violence in the streets compared to Korea, where you can't own a gun.

Frank Luke didn't carry his pistol concealed (mandatory WW I content.)
As a former police commissioner and a current reserve deputy sheriff, I can say that almost every cop I know heartily approves of private citizens carrying concealed. I hasten to add that they need to be trained, but I'd much rather have motivated citizens packing than ill trained cops, which is still all too common. No less a city than Portland, OR, stopped annual qualification (forget training) several years ago in order to save money. Long story short: cops killed a 12-year-old boy held hostage. "Bullets are cheaper than lawyers."
The Law Enforcement Alliance of America, composed of active & retired cops, heartily endorses CCW and interstate reciprocal arrangements for retired police and citizens. The chiefs you see on TV with all the starry spangled banners advocating unilateral disarmament are there because they owe their positions to their political masters. The few street cops who favor such things have a saying I've heard a dozen times: "Living in a police state isn't so bad--if you're a policeman."
