I was reading that Karl Schafer was in Paris when war broke out.

I was curious as to what he was doing there?

Thanks.

Naval 10:

According to the book "Eagles of the Black Cross" by Walter Musciano, he writes:

"...and immediately upon graduating from high school he entered the army, joining the Jagar Battalion No. 10 at Goslar. When his term of enlistment expired Karl went to live in England and France to study the languages and managed to return to Germany only three days before the war began."
