I now have a couple of hours in the replica Nieuport at the OHTM. Its alot of fun and does seem to be more maneuverable then the SPAD especially in turns to the left. A very fast left turn in our plane can be done simply by releasing the right rudder. it is nowhere near as fast as the Spad and when flying formation I usually lead to insure I can keep up in the turns. my biggest
learning curve is on takeoff, the tail comes up right away but the plane requires a long ground roll before it flies. probably I will learn a better way eventually. I thought someone might be interested VBR Brad

Dear Brad: What engine did your repllica have? How long was the roll out? I recall a WWI video of the repair shops at Issoudon showind N-28s leaving the ground in 5-6 seconds by actual count. Jeffrey Ethell was my instructor at the American Military University. He fllew the main WWI fighters and wrote an article (1991) for Smithsonian mag about how tough it was to fly WWI A/Cs. He said 15 minutes onthe stick was enough for him...Got any pix of instrumentation? EOM/Bill Haiber/7/13/99

Hi its a Lycoming 0320 landing rollout is very short maby 200' after the tail skid touches down.
on takeoff its less then 600' and 10 seconds but the spad is half that. the plane wont fly itself
(and I question all those dead pilot landing stories) but its not bad work if you can get it.
