Is it just me, or does this picture get around a lot? Take a close look. Is this not the same picture as what's shown on his pilot's certificate?

Al:

Mannock was not a celebrated hero during his time. He wasn't a popular public figure at the time and there are not a lot of pictures floating around of him like that of other aces such as McCudden and your boy Bishop. It would appear to me that after the war and he gained some notoriety that they went to his pilot's license to get a good copy of his picture.

You wouldn't be trying to shed doubt on the authenticity of his pilot's license, would you? By the way, have you read any of the Mick bios?

Amy

Who? Me? Shed doubt as to the authenticity of his certificate? Nooooo. Not moi.

Actually, it just struck me strange that the same picture kept showing up and I mean ALL OVER THE NET!! And I just figured there had to be other pictures of him available that people would use. But that particular one is the one you see the most.

Nope, I haven't had the inclination, until recently to read any of his bios.

VBR,

Al Lowe

Yes Al,

It's a snippet from the one below, which was taken near the end of his RFC training in 1916. Which is presumably why he used a cut down version of it on his certificate, as it was probably the most recent one he had.

Al:

I can tell by some of the things you've written that you haven't read any of Mick's bios. But you're certainly not the only Bozo on the bus because apparently a lot of others who cruise around here haven't read any either. I recommend Oughton or Dudgeon's books. The book by Jones has too much hero worship.

Darryl, Al, and anyone else who hasn't read any "good" Mick bios--Sorry, I should've added a smiley face after that line. No disrespect intended.
