Hi All:
New to the group, and have been trying to find info on my grandfather. Canadian, flew from Nov.1916 to Feb. 1917 with 4 Wing RNAS, Naval 6 I believe. Are there any searchable databases on the web where I might find more info on him and/or his units? What about offline archives?
Thanks
Don

Hi,
Not too much in the way of searchable DB's. War Graves Commission site if he was KIA. If you give us a name someone will be able to track him down. If he scored a victory, was wounded or took part in something special, it will be especially easy.

regards

Darryl

Try this. It's a searchable D.B. for most of the Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1914-1919.
Good Hunting!

Been doing armour research for some time now-but I do know the Cdn. Archives doesn't hold RNAS records. I hear only the PRO in the UK does, maybe the FAA Museum. FYI, he apparently shot down 4 German aircraft (don't know what type) in Jan. and Feb. 1917. His log book stops on the 9th of March (?) when he apparently flew into the ground and spent 2 years in hospital. He may also have been downed by an Albatross, according to family members, but that's not reliable. I'm more inclined to beleieve the crash theory as he had a nasty habit of doing that over the course of the next 40 years of flying!
His picture is in Above the Trenches, and is mistakenly there as a photo of one of the Black Flight (Alexander)I believe. I know this because I have the original print. Thanks for the help.

I should be more specific in what I'm looking for: I'd like to find a way to confirm (or dismiss) his 4 kills, what they were, and exactly how he went down. Anything more specific on his squadron would be a bonus too. Thanks again.
