I studied Today in History for this day and saw
nearly nothing. But Alexander Zenzes The German
Marine Ace with at least 19 victories was born
this Day. Happy Birthday to him !
Does anyone knew anything of his post War career ?
How long he lived ? Is he still living??
Regards Gunnar

Gunnar,
Just double checking, but I take it from you message that Zenses was born on July 10, 1898. Is that correct? Do you have his place of birth as well?
With regard to any further infomration on him, I have never come across any. Most of the German Naval aces were unknown up to ten years ago; only the big three with the PlM were known. Then some research was done in the KTBs of the MFJs, and additional names came out. Of the additional names, Hübrich is one of the few with more information, since he wrote his autobiography, and it was serialized in Jägerblatt, and then published in hard-cover.

Vin,
MFJ and KTB I explained in another thread (IAT). PlM is Pour le Mérite, the German award whose name is French because they didn't speak Irish, or Gaelic.

Acording the Marinekalender which was published
after the War Zenses was born on 10 July 1898.
His first name is also given as Alexander.
The Marinekalender contains over 1000 German Marine flyers(pilots/observers) with birtdate and
in most cases rather good information of their
career during the War. Its also contains data
of comission/promotion to last rank. However it
does not give birthplace.
The information on the German Marine Ace Karl
Scharon is as follows:
Born 15 May 1892. Joned Navy 8.15
Comissioned Vizeflugmeister(It stands Vizefeuerw)
1 Aug 1918.
May 1917 Marinelandfliegerabteilung
Nov 1917 Landfliegerabteilung until EOW
Thats all for him..
The Marinekalender is probably to be lend or
read in several European Libraries, perhaps
Military Libraries.

Gunnar,
I found the following Naval pilots with four or more victories in my list. If you can supply date of birth, I would appreciate it. I have date of death for two of them, which I will list.
Philipp Becht, 4 victories, Seefrosta, I. MFJ, died Sept 13, 1965
Eduard Blaas, 5 vics, II. MFJ, III. MFJ
Moritz Brenner, 4 vics, I. MFJ
Albin Buhl, 6 vics, Seefrosta, IV. MFJ
Karl Engelfried, 6 vics, Seefrosta, V. MFJ
Hans Goerth, 7 vics, I. MFJ, III. MFJ
Karl Kutschke, 4 vics, V. MFJ
Reinhold Poss, 11 vics, Seefrosta, IV. MFJ, died Aug 26, 1933, KIFA
Willy Thöne, 4 vics, I. MFJ

I will have to check into the Marinekalender, since there are a large number of Naval pilots lacking first names in my list.

Many thanks.

Frank.

Frank
Lt dR MI Becht was born 9 Mars 1885
I only have 3 victories on him.
Flugmaat Blaas was perhaps not comissioned
vizeflugmeister so I havent his birtdate, He
recieved the Ehrenpreis on 23 May 1918 and recieved Landfliegerabzeichen on 25 June 1917
as Flgz.Ob.Mtr.
Brenner was probably not comissioned a officers rank. Dont find him.
Buhl last rank was probably Oberflugmeister so
he is not in the list. He was comissioned from
Flugobermaat to Flugmeister on 24 Dec 1917. He
recieved the Ehrenpreis on 15 Jan 1918. His H.P.
was not confirmed and probably not the Sopwith on
27 April 1918. But his total seems to be 6 vict.
Flugmaat Engelfried seems not have been comissioned vizeflugmeister, but I could missed
his promotion because not all names in the Marinekalender gives information on Flying Service, and as I lend the book and only written
up the names with actual notes on Aerial Service.
Hans Goerth should be in the Marinekalender because he was comissioned Vizeflugmeister. I missed him. He Joined MFJ 1 on 26 Febr 1918 coming from Kusta 3. He actually shot down a DH 2s
in flames on 23 April 1918 time 14:40 over sea
q. Blankenberge. In The victory list of MFJ 1 which extends to late July 1918 as a supplement to the KTB(War Diary) it stands as not yet confirmed. He recieved the Landfliegerabzeichen on
22 May 1918 and the Ehrenpreis on 28 July 1918.
Karl Kutschkes last rank was probably Flugmaat,
he recieved the Landfliegerabzeichen on 26 Oct 1917.
Lt dMI(not reserv) Poss was born 11 September
1897. He probably also served in MFJ 5.
Vizeflugmeister Wilhelm Thöne was born 22 January
1893.
I have some aditional information of these men
If someone is interested ?, but tomorrov I go for
vacation for 4 weeks, but will be back in mid
August.
Do You have Wilhelm Schubert in your list of Aces? Brockhoff also seems to have scored at least
4 vict.
