[center]
DEPRESSION

No not really. Just hit the big 40 today and I'm shocked at the passage of time ! Thought I'd say hi to my friends on the forum. Read last night of a squadron reunion and of one of the pilots in tears when it hit him that 50 years had gone by. I'm beginning to grasp that feeling. Still feel that if you wish hard enough or think hard enough you can somehow grasp some of the times that have dissappeared.......Ah well !
Good day anyway....my great wife gave me STORKS, and my eldest daughter got me Above the War Fronts, boys got me three new Sopwith 1 1/2 strutters to build and a subscription to Scale Aircraft Modeler ! Little girls picked out Windsock Datafiles ! Nice aviation birthday ! Now if someone could just give me a winning lottery ticket !
You all have a fun day !
Best wishes - John G. (known to my brother as John the Large)

....is - OUT ON THEIR OWN!
As for turning 40.......I've found out that it's a turn that continues into a downward spiral stretching over many years (15 so far in my case).
Don't worry, John, this day will be one you'll be able to look back on and (with luck and lots of ginko pills) remember.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my latest issue of "Modern Maturity".

John:

Forty rolled off my back like rain off a duck. Even The Big Five-Oh wasn't terribly traumatic (after a coupla weeks to get used to the idea.) But when my little brother hit 40, I did some deep thinking.
Hang in there, pard. there IS life after 40!

Been there, done that. As time passes after 40, that 40th seems better and better.

Last weekend, I heard John McEnroe repeat a Connie Hawkins quote: "The older I get, the better I used to be!"

Aint that the truth.

Happy Birthday!

John

In September it'll be 40 years since I was discharged from the army. I'm still hitting on all 8 cylinders and there ain't no rockin' chair in sight.

Hang in there guy. You're still just a kid.

P.S. When my dad was 75 he ran off to Florida with some woman. On my Grandmother's 100th birthday, we hung up a large banner congratulating her on the event. She got mad at us because she had told her boyfriend she was only 95. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead.

John,
Big HB! I hit fourty a few years back and now I consider my age like a large calibre handgun. I'm a 44! It's great because as you get older you can act like you want and not really care what others may think of it, because you've earned the right. I don't have any kids to get me birthday gifts, but then again I don't have to worry about any of their problems either so there is a big payoff to that. Life just gets better and you age like a fine wine!
VBR,
Jim
